Women Leading the Future of Family Businesses in Spain and LATAM

By Cristina Ramos Gómez de Balboa, CEO of Women on Board.

In 2025, more than 65% of Spain and Latin America's GDP will continue to depend on family businesses (Family Business Institute).
And quietly but powerfully, we are witnessing a historic shift: more and more women are taking on leadership roles in these businesses.

According to the EY Family Business Survey 2025:

  • One in three successions is now led by a woman.
  • 48% of companies actively consider women for the position of CEO.

Recent examples:

  • Grupo Bimbo: Daniela Servitje Montull joins the global management team.
  • Osborne Group: Sofía Osborne drives expansion into new markets.

Why is this change interesting?

  1. Continuity with meaning:
New leaders don't just inherit businesses; they inherit stories. They understand that protecting a legacy isn't about keeping it intact, but adapting it without losing its essence.
  2. Quiet commitment, real impact:
Without grand speeches, many women in family businesses are transforming corporate culture from within: prioritizing listening, social responsibility, and long-term decisions.
  3. Innovation that respects its roots:
They do not seek to break with the past, but rather to expand upon it. Their leadership is committed to growth, diversification, and internationalization... while always respecting the identity that made the company strong.

Female leadership in family businesses IS INEVITABLE.
It is not a trend or a concession. It is a logical evolution of organizations that understand that diversity does not weaken: it strengthens.
