“Women’s Leadership Struggles to Take Off: Only 31% of Senior Positions in International Organizations Are Held by Women”

From my perspective as a Woman Leader and member of WOB on Female Representation in Multilateral Organizations, the GWL Voices report highlights the concerning underrepresentation of women in multilateral organizations, but it also points to a positive shift with an increase in female leadership. Since 1954, only 47 women have led these institutions, out of a total of 382 leaders.

As CEO of WOB, I understand the relevance of promoting gender equality at all levels of leadership. WOB offers a space where we can advocate for more opportunities for women in leadership roles at the international level, including within multilateral organizations.

The call from leaders such as Hillary Clinton, Helen Clark, and Michelle Bachelet to have a woman at the head of the United Nations is a significant milestone. It is essential to continue working together in networks like WOB to drive change and ensure that women are equitably represented in all spheres of global power.
