The Power of Support Networks: The Impact of Gender Parity in Latin America and the Caribbean

According to the World Economic Forum report, Latin America and the Caribbean have made significant strides toward gender equality. With a score of 74.2% in gender parity, the region ranks third globally and has made the most progress since 2006. This progress is a testament to the efforts made, but it also invites us to reflect on what still needs to be done to achieve true equality.

As a woman, entrepreneur, and CEO of Women on Board, I have always believed in the power of support networks and the importance of creating trusting environments for women, where we can share experiences, support each other, and grow personally and professionally.

Recent advances in Latin America and the Caribbean in terms of gender parity are a clear example of what can be achieved when we work together.

The region has achieved remarkable improvement in gender parity, reaching an overall score of 74.2%. This progress is not just a matter of numbers: it means that more women have access to job opportunities and occupy professional roles that were previously inaccessible to them. This advance encourages women to participate actively in the economy and politics, as demonstrated by the notable increase in female representation, which now stands at 34%.

However, beyond the statistics, what really matters is the impact: when women have access to the same opportunities as men, not only do they benefit, but so does society as a whole. The transformative power of women who lead with confidence transforms their communities, educates their children with values of equality and leadership, and brings about significant changes in politics and the economy.

Moving toward gender parity in Latin America and around the world would mean a future in which girls see their mothers, sisters, and female leaders as examples of what they can achieve. It is not just a matter of reaching positions of power, but of creating a more equitable society with more opportunities for everyone, and maintaining them.

At WOB, we work to provide safe spaces and support networks that enable women to grow together, share experiences, and achieve their goals. Support networks are not a luxury; they are essential for women to break down barriers, access new opportunities, and bring about the change that society needs.

Progress toward gender parity is more than a statistical improvement; it is a profound change that will transform the future of our society.

But it is not a goal that will be achieved automatically, and every step we take toward it must be accompanied by commitment, collaboration, and action. Support networks remain essential for women to access more opportunities and, most importantly, to feel part of a movement that supports them. At WOB, we remain committed to being that support network that connects women with their true potential.
